Year 6 Taunton Prep School pupil Emma was recently awarded two separate awards for her creative writing, winning the U11 Poetry category and the U11 Prose category at the Burnham Book Festival!
Emma won the awards for her fantastic poem, Flightless, and her short story, Mooney, which have now been published in the 2024 Festival Anthology.

Flightless by Emma Rose Johnson
Love is a bird,
Lonely on air,
Too shy for anyone to see its beauty,
It floats on delicate wings,
Not knowing of its journey,
Driven on as it sings,
It has to go on though thirsty.
Sometimes it falls,
Loud are its cries,
The wind is as sharp as needles.
The river of peace will nurse it,
It will immerse it in soft water embers,
And then on it shall go to deliver its message,
May our little bird not feel the slaughter of mankind.
Love is a bird ever wandering.
