At Taunton Prep School we offer a fun and relaxed boarding experience that truly feels like home.

Based in the heart of the Prep School, Thone House is home to 35 boarders aged between 8 and 13 years, living happily together as one extended family.

We ensure all of our boarders enjoy a ‘home from home’ experience, with caring and nurturing house parents to provide pastoral care and support along the way.

Our boarding house is located on our safe and secure rural campus in Taunton, Somerset, surrounded by 56 acres of green space and with a fantastic range of modern facilities on its doorstep.

What makes Thone House a home?

There is a real warmth and togetherness to Thone that emulates family life. We are passionate about creating a strong, kind-hearted and welcoming community.

Mrs Wells is our Head of Boarding and houseparent at Thone who lives with her family within the house itself. She is supported by a fantastic and caring team of matrons, assistant houseparents, graduate resident assistants and a resident tutor, who all provide excellent pastoral care and educational support.

What is boarding life like at Taunton School?

We place the health, happiness and wellbeing of each pupil at the centre of our community.

Above all, boarding at Taunton Prep School is fun. We provide a range of exciting, well-structured activities in the evenings from swimming, climbing and shooting to cookery, crafts and film nights. At the weekends, the children can enjoy use of the many facilities we have on offer on site as well as a fun trip each Sunday.

Pupils are encouraged to communicate regularly with family and friends. The houseparents also maintain strong communication with parents to ensure they too feel a part of the school community.

How does Taunton School support military families?

Military families have been part of the Taunton School community for many years. We understand the upheaval of military life and the effect this can have on children from military backgrounds, which is why we offer the stability an undisrupted education – whether through full, weekly or flexible boarding.

We offer significant financial support for military families in receipt of CEA.
